Yung and I attended Baylor Homecoming for the first time since I graduated in 2008. It is such a sweet time of traditions and renewing that Baylor spirit again. I had planned for us to participate in more “homecoming-y” events, but adult things like conference schedules and catching up with work in our dinky motel (hotel prices are majorly inflated during this weekend) cut into some of our fun time. We still had a nice walk around campus, saw the homecoming parade floats that we missed during the actual parade, visited the bears, and Yung listened to me talk about the good ole times. Living in the dorms, eating in the cafeteria (Penland quesadillas for life!), working out at the SLC (student life center), and all the study sessions in the science building. We also had Katie’s Custard, sweet tea from Bush’s Chicken, and visited Spice and Magnolia before attending the homecoming game with our friend Laura that evening. During our custard break at Katie’s, I met a blogger with whom I have followed and admired for years. I put on my brave face, walked up to her, introduced myself, and hoped that she wouldn’t think it was odd for me to approach her. Of course, she was sweet and nice, and it was totally a movie star moment for me.
Then it was football time! It was our first time in the new McLane Stadium that is right on campus. Back in the day, you had to hightail it across town to attend a game, but now you can walk, and they conveniently had shuttles going to and from downtown, where we parked our car. It was fun to be back on campus for a weekend, and memorable to share homecoming with Yung. I can’t believe next year will mark my 10 year college reunion. I miss those Baylor days!
