On October 1st, 2016, I was having a very bad morning. It was officially our wedding month, I was stressed over everything that was not accomplished, and I hated my dress and actually had a crying meltdown about all it. I had called my seamstress the day before to see if she could fit me in to see her, and Yung very graciously drove me to my appointment.
Sheesh. I can overreact to the best of us.
We were already in Lewisville, and Yung asked if I wanted to head up to Denton (his work place) for lunch. I shrugged and said why not? Who cares about the wedding diet anyway? (I was still grumpy).
There happened to be a festival in the square downtown for Hispanic Heritage Month, and it was parents weekend for UNT, so we mingled with the crowds. We stumbled upon a man with a sign that said “Free Caricatures” and were immediately intrigued. We got in line to have our faces drawn, but we got a text on our phone that told us our table was ready for lunch. Apparently food is more important, because neither one of us thought to finish waiting in line and eat later. Before we left, I snagged the Instagram account of the artist from the booth attendant, and we we contacted Isidro Nunez himself that very afternoon.
Early on in our wedding planning, I was dead set on having some type of artist paint at our reception. I saw a photo of a wedding guest holding the most gorgeous water color painting of herself, and I wanted that so badly. After some Facebook stalking and messaging, I found out that the bride of that wedding flew in an artist from New York, so I knew that particular plan was out of the question.
Enter, Isidro. We liked how Isidro used black and white with shading (although he recently moved on the using color) and kept his drawings simple. They were not outlandish and unrealistic like traditional caricature artists can be. I spoke with him on the phone once, and hired him for our reception. We are so happy with our experience and loved that we were able to offer something unique at our wedding.
Thank you, Isidro, for taking part in our wedding day! Follow him on Instagram here!
XO
PS. To our wedding guests: If Isidro drew a caricature of you at our wedding, send me a photo of you with the drawing! We are compiling photos for our wedding book.
