Who can believe that I’ve made it to my 3rd and last trimester? I want to write down all the things and remember all the feelings, but it just feels like each day passes so quickly with an ever growing to do list. I’ve had a few days lately where I was unable to sleep in past 6am on my day off, and I’m pretty sure it is some stress creeping in on me! Then again, maybe it’s just my body preparing for baby, and I have to get up before 6am on a work day anyhow.
We had an ultrasound this week to check the baby’s size, and he continues to measure big. I was told that most babies “regress to the mean” (doctor’s words, not mine!) by the time they deliver, but that doesn’t mean I don’t worry about having a 9+ pound baby. Our baby boy is already 3.5 pounds!
In other news, I passed my glucose screen, so I do not have gestational diabetes! Just a big babe.
A few weeks ago, we took a child birth class, and I think it completely freaked me out. I started having some anxiety that day, and immediately decided to add guided meditation to my daily routine. (Haven’t actually started this, but I need to!) Hopefully it helps my breathing and will benefit when it is time for the baby to come out. I keep hearing how beneficial meditation is for the soul. I have tried it in the past, but don’t think I have ever felt the true benefits from it.
Here’s a quick update as my 3rd trimester starts:
What are you eating these days?
No true cravings to date. I think Yung is hoping I’ll start craving ice cream or other fun foods so we can start buying those things, but alas-it’s not happening! I think I am so worried that I’m going to gain too much weight and the baby will be huge, but I’m trying to eat the best that I can. I’ve already gained way more than I anticipated, which is so bizarre because I was down 12 pounds at one point during my 1st trimester. Therefore, I’m still eating the way I was before! Lots of protein, veggies, fruit, and squeezing in some grains.
How is your exercise?
Good! I mostly take walks with the dogs, do weights and squats, and lots of stretching at home each day. I haven’t made it to exercise classes regularly, but I will do a quick elliptical/AMT session at the gym and go for the occasional swim with Yung.
How are you adjusting to your bump?
I’m getting more comfortable with my new shape, but truthfully, it is a little weird. My belly button looks wonky, I have linea nigra, my arm pits have darkened, and my legs feel enormous. Luckily (or maybe unluckily?), it is summer, so I am just wearing lots of exercise shorts and tanks–which surprisingly still fit from pre-pregnancy days–, maternity scrubs, and dresses.
Just in the last week or so, baby has been kicking stronger, which I am happy about, but sometimes it is a bit uncomfortable. I am soaking up all the pregnant days, and this is going to sound weird, but I am going to miss it. I know these last 12 weeks will be gone in a flash. So crazy that 2 years ago, we were preparing for our wedding, and now we are prepping for baby!
We are working our hineys off to get our home ready for baby, and hopefully by the end of the month, I’ll feel a lot better once everything around here is good to go!
I don’t know why all of my bump photos are taken of me not in real clothes, but for some reason, I never think to take any when I am actually dressed. I’ll be taking maternity photos towards the end of September/early October, so those will be a fun keepsake.
Hope everyone has a happy weekend!
XO
